Angry Birds is a video game series created in 2009 by Peter Vesterbacka and Jere Erkko, who work for the Finnish company Rovio Entertainment Corporation. The game has been adapted to touch screen devices, such as those based on Maemo, iOS, Symbian, Java and Android.

Angry Birds Popularity

With over a billion downloads in 2012, this app was the most popular app of the year on the Apple App Store and Google Play. In addition, it is also the best-selling game in history on mobile media.

However, Angry Birds is not just a digital phenomenon: the characters are so popular that the company started selling bird toys, costumes and all kinds of merchandise.

How has Angry Birds progressed through time?

There is a version of Angry Birds, "Angry Birds Seasons", where the levels are more focused on important dates of the year such as Valentine's Day or Christmas. Rovio also released a special edition of the game, called "Angry Birds Rio", in March 2011 as a publicity stunt for the animated film Rio. In addition, Rovio created a completely free HD edition of Angry Birds as an exclusive app for Google Chrome. He also created a space version called "Angry Birds Space" and a special edition of the game called "Angry Birds Star Wars", which currently has a second part ("Angry Birds Star Wars II"), in which it incorporates the new technology of Telepods, thanks to which users can interact with physical figures external to the application. There is also a board game, Angry Birds: Knock on Wood, and a giant game so to speak, which is several green pig cuddly toys on shelves and a giant slingshot with a bird on it. These types of giant games can be found in various cities in Japan. In addition, Rovio Entertainment Ltd. has created various animated movies and shorts of the game to make it more popular. On November 2, 2011, 500 million downloads were reached, and on May 9, 2012, 1 billion downloads were reached.
